Happy Cancer Full Moon
An intuitive psychological approach to examining the cancer archetype, using astrology as a tool for self inquiry and relating to our subconscious mind.
Cancer is the first water sign in the zodiac wheel. It’s energetic pull is inward into our bodies. Through principals of the cancer archetype we get to examine our internal world. We learn to attune to ourselves and discover the feeling resonance when we hit a truth in our emotional body. In the zodiac wheel it rules the 4th house which is the house of the mother, or primary feminine character in our lives. The 4th house sits at the base of our chart which bring up themes of childhood and the root system we build based on our environment.
As children we learn about our emotional systems through attunement. Having a caregiver feel our emotional currents and their respective needs gives us a strong framework for understanding our watery depths. If there is a lack of attunement we may feel confused by our emotions. If the attunement is judgemental or distorted by our caregivers then we may experience a dissonance between how we truly feel and how we relate to that feeling.
So cancer brings us the opportunity to learn to attune to ourselves. To clear our emotional lens and find congruence between our words and feelings. To communicate your deeper self and engage in meaningful connection.
A practice:
Name your emotion without blame or a reason. Simply find a name for a sensation, for example tension could be irritation or anger, or a buzzy sense could be anxiety or overwhelm. When you find a word which resonates with the sensation continue the current inward. Why are you feeling that way? Inquire with curiosity, a genuine desire to know yourself, ask questions and truly listen. If the answers pull you out to your external world understand that this is an emotion which has history in being placed outside of you it is likely a place where you have felt powerless. I invite you to continue your inquiry with your attention inward. It is not the external which is creating it, the internal world is the birth place of our emotions. As you follow the sensation inward you will find the root, the need, desire, longing or grief. You have felt this all the way through and into you.
Irritated? Have you lost yourself?
Anxious? What are you afraid of?
Overwhelmed? How are your boundaries?
Angry? What do you feel entitled to?
These inquiries are examples, your self inquiries may bring different perspectives.
Our emotions are messengers which point us inward. They belong to you and in turn build your belonging. As you learn your emotional currents you begin to understand the shifts which guide your true way of being in the world. Your ebbs and flows are a calling for your deeper self to be seen.
Take some time today to lean in to you, allow the space learn something new.
Blessings
Lauren
